Video Premiere: Vinny Radio - "Legend"

One of the best side effects of the popular emerge of rappers like Joey Bada$$, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar (to name a few) is the implicit messaging that you don’t have to dumb it down to become a famous rapper and that rapping really well can make you both cool and successful. This latter fact seems to have birthed Bada$$ and an entire generation of young rappers for whom dense, multi-syllabic flows are a pre-requisite, not a higher plane of rap existence.

As a result, you end up with rappers like Vinny Radio, the slick-tongued Mac Miller affiliate who infuses the usual banter of booze and blunts with sharp, densely packed bars (particularly latter half off the second verse a runaway train heavy with alliteration that kicks into gear around a minute and thirty seconds). Radio sounds right at home on the woozy, thumping beat, effortlessly in the pocket.

Vinny’s BROKE drops on July 30th and will almost certainly feature more of Vinny rapping well. Stay tuned.
