Madeaux is a young producer of “underwater pop music” (his own words) and there could not be a more apt description for the ever-shifting liquidity of his soundscapes. In both his original production and remixes there is a prevailing aesthetic, and that also extends to the fantastic mix that the talented producer has done for us to celebrate the release of brand new track “Celestina”. “Celestina” is a song that came up surprisingly quickly. A lot about it I can’t really explain. The idea for the name came in a dream I had around the time I was working on it. There’s something mystical about its construction, I think that might have to do with the “celestial” connotation. I’ve been holding onto this song for a fair bit of time now and I really wanted to give it out. Thanks for listening and enjoy the mix, there’s a lot of stuff in there that’s unreleased, remixes, edits, and a little secret something at the end.
As for my identity, SBTRKT said that he wears the mask because he wants to “subtract” his person from the musical equation. I want my music to be the focus, not me. When I start playing live more you’ll eventually discover who I am or at least what I look like. I’m not a fan of the whole masked DJ aesthetic, it’s a little played out!
“The Celestina Mix” is an hour of shimmering melodies and emotional peaks and troughs, drawing from many different genres, and the magic of the mix is the way they are woven together by Madeaux’s gliding piano flourishes and copious post production.
