Azealia Banks x Machinedrum - "NEEDSUMLUV"

As promised, Azealia Banks hits us up with a new track to help the soul destroying drag that is a Monday go past a little quicker. Rather than foul mouthed rap, or a club ready banger, “NEEDSUMLUV” has more of a laid back R&B feel, completely devoid of rapping. Miss Banks is a good singer, and whilst she doesn’t have the kind of highly individual or powerful singing voice that really grabs your attention, what she demonstrates again here is a great choice in producers. She’s already collaborated with Machinedrum (aka Sepalcure, producer of one of 2011’s most atmospheric EDM albums) on “Scam (Lyrical Excercise)” but the loping, tropical-leaning house beat that he brings to the table for this collaboration really turns the song from one listen and forget material to a funky, forward looking track that I’ll put in a play list or two.

Machinedrum used his track “SXLND” (I highly recommend you check it out here) as the basis for the”NEEDSUMLUV” beat, adding an Aaliyah sample amongst other things, and combining with Azealia Banks for what she called on Twitter “R&B but hella progressive”.
