“Friend Crush” is the debut single of Brooklyn band Friends, fronted by the sexy, sultry voiced Samantha Urbani – and what a debut record it is. There’s elements of the lo-fi haziness that is popular with bands like Best Coast and Dum Dum Girls, but with a more clean cut pop edge, and a bit of a tropical vibe mixed in. Another positive is that these guys don’t seem like another bunch of Brooklynite hipsters, more like a bunch of Friends (worst joke ever?) who like jamming together.
There is an elegant simplicity to lyrics such as
I want to be your friend/ I want to ask you advice on the weekend
and coupled with a funky bassline and crisp percussion, this makes Friends a definite must listen, and a band I see blowing up over the coming months. Listen to “Friend Crush” (hit the jump for the accompanying video) and B-side ‘Feelin’ Dank” below, and be on the lookout for their next single “I’m His Girl” out October 3rd on Lucky Numbers.
