One year after the tragic death of Compton rapper Slim 400, YG pays tribute to his late friend with the release of his new song “Miss My Dawgs.”

Produced by Gibbo and Ambezza, the track features Lil Wayne, who famously rapped about missing his dawgs on his 2004 album Tha Carter, and arrives alongside a music video which opens with a shot of a Nipsey Hussle mural.

“Man, I miss my dawgs, the ones I pick up for, ain’t never missed a call/Plottin’ to get it poppin’, we had plans to get it all/Wishin’ you was here, dawg, to ride these foreign cars,” YG raps on the emotional track.

Ahead of its release, YG took to Instagram to reveal the new track and dedicate it to Slim 400.

“A year ago today around 9pm tonight I got a scandalous ass kall saying the homie was TT.I.P I ain’t wanna believe dat but that scandalous Ass shitt end up being true,” YG wrote. “This song dedicated to Slim. I’m sorry bro. The gang miss you foo.”

The first song from YG since the September release of his sixth studio album I Got Issues, “Miss My Dawgs” grows the list of YG’s joint work with Lil Wayne, following 2014’s “My N***a (Remix),” 2016’s “I Got A Question,” 2016’s “Trill,” 2020’s “Blood Walk,” and 2021’s “Buzzin’.”
