Kanye West is still in the throes of promoting his latest offering, Donda, and now it appears that he might make a surprise appearance at the MTV VMAs on Sunday night.
Page Six reports that the Chicago rapper has been added as a “secret, last-minute performer” at the event, which is taking place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.Apparently, Kim Kardashian might also show up as well, having already attended his listening parties, including in the Chicago event at Soldier Field last month.
With the Kardashians in town for New York Fashion Week and the Met Gala, we hear [Kim and Kourtney] may be making an appearance as well, especially since Kourtney’s beau, Travis Barker, is performing with good friend Machine Gun Kelly,” an insider told the outlet.
Yeezy has a storied history with the VMAs. Back in 2009, when Taylor Swift was accepting the award for Best Video by a Female Artist, he rushed the stage to infamously proclaim, “Ima let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time [for ‘Single Ladies’]. One of the best videos of all time!” It was not one of his prouder moments, and set into motion a complicated relationship between himself and Swift.
Other performances at the VMAs include Alicia Keys, Swae Lee, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, Doja Cat, Justin Bieber, Lil Nas X, Normani, Olivia Rodrigo, Shawn Mendes, Foo Fighters, Kacey Musgraves, and Twenty One Pilots.
Kanye released his tenth studio album Donda on Aug. 29, which immediately became divisive, in part because of his collaborations with Marilyn Manson and DaBaby.
