Jermaine Dupri Says He's "In a Seat That Puff Daddy Can’t Pay For" Amid 'Verzuz' Battle Argument

Jermaine Dupri and Diddy are continuing their back-and-forth over catalog strength, and JD has decided to remind Diddy of one of his biggest accolades: The Songwriters Hall of Fame.

While Diddy may keep insisting that only Dr. Dre is a worthy Verzuz opponent and smack-talking JD on Instagram Live when it comes to his many Bad Boy hits, JD isn’t letting his comments go easy. Sitting down with V-103 Atlanta, Dupri explained why he thinks he’s got more than enough classics to go toe-to-toe with the fellow music giant.

“Let me say this to y’all, everybody, be clear,” Dupri said. “I just want to make sure everybody understands this. I am in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. I am in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Puff Daddy’s not in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Steve Stoute and the Trackmasters are not in the Hall of Fame.”

Durpi was inducted into the HOF back in 2018, and he surely has the hits to prove it—from Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” to Usher’s “U Got It Bad”—but he also mentioned a few other friends who hold the distinction that Diddy lacks.

“It’s only four of us. Me, Dallas Austin, Jay-Z, and Missy Elliott—when it comes to songwriting… I shouldn’t have to play nothing,” JD said. “Y’all should have to hear his music. I am in a seat that Puff Daddy can’t pay for. You have to write songs, and as far as I’m concerned, as far as I’m concerned, I don’t know if he’ll ever get in that club.”

Only time will tell how Diddy hits back at JD’s latest remarks about his pen.
