Not long after Brockhampton announced their final studio album The Family, the group shared the dramatic video for new song “The Ending.”
Directed by Joshuah Melnick, the visual for the track features Kevin Abstract drunkenly overstaying his welcome at a grimy bar before he’s dragged out by security. The final shot of the video shows the rest of the band happily hanging out in the bar, with Joba and Bearface playing pool.
Like “Big Pussy” before it, which was the first single from The Family, “The Ending” is a solo affair from Abstract, the de facto leader and creative director of the band. The song sees him recount the early days of when he and his friends packed up and moved to Los Angeles, where they eventually went on to make their defining Saturation trilogy. “This is the ending we all envisioned, right?” he raps at the conclusion of the brief song. “This is me, Abstract gone for the night.”
The Family is set to arrive on Nov. 17 via Question Everything and RCA Records. At the start of the year, the group announced they had canceled the majority of the upcoming tour dates and would take an “indefinite hiatus” after their two shows at Coachella. In a series of since-deleted tweets, per Stereogum, Abstract made clear that The Family really is their last project. “We broke up earlier this year bc shit just wasn’t working out,” he wrote. “This shit is over. Last one next week.”
According to a press release about the album, which is their seventh overall and fourth on a major label, “The Family is a story about Brockhampton.”
