ASAP Rocky was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday.

Rocky was returning from Barbados on a private jet at the time, per TMZ, which initially reported he was “met by cops at the terminal” and handcuffed.

Meanwhile, a separate report from regional outlet KNBC says Rocky, 33, was detained in connection with a November 2021 shooting. According to that report, the Testing artist had been “under investigation” following a shooting in the Los Angeles area on the evening of Nov. 6, an incident that was not covered in the media.

A person described as the victim in the late 2021 incident alleged that Rocky and two other individuals approached him, with ASAP accused of having shot at this person several times. The unnamed individual is also reported to have told police he believes a bullet “grazed his left hand” during the alleged incident.

Rocky’s attorney Alan Jackson confirmed in comments to NBC News on Wednesday that his client had been arrested.

Complex has reached out to a rep for Rocky for comment, as well as to Jackson’s office and the Los Angeles Police Department. Per initial reports on Wednesday, LAPD was assisted in their arrest of Rocky by ICE’s Homeland Security Investigations division.

LAPD later shared a statement on the arrest stating it was connected to the alleged 2021 shooting. “Early this morning, LAPD officers arrested [ASAP Rocky] for assault with a deadly weapon (firearm) at the Los Angeles International Airport,” police said, adding that the case will next be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. The LAPD statement also alleged the shooting in question started with “an argument between two acquaintances” near Selma Avenue and Argyle Avenue in the Hollywood area. New York Times music reporter Joe Coscarelli shared on Twitter, alongside a video, that one of Rocky’s neighbors told him the usage of a SWAT team was “so excessive.”

“[I]t was like they came for Capone…I’m frankly offended by it…seems so inappropriate...he’s a great neighbor,” they also said.

Just after 2 p.m., the outlet offered further updates, saying police concluded their search of Rocky’s home, “leaving with a box of potential evidence”—supported by a photograph—“though it’s unclear what was inside.”

ASAP was brought to the LAPD’s headquarters, where his bond was allegedly set at $550,000, “an amount he’ll post soon to be released,” TMZ added.

Prior to Wednesday’s arrest, Rocky was making headlines for his visit with Rihanna to Barbados, where the Savage X Fenty founder was born and raised. The two are expecting their first child together.
