Migos fucked up my weekday sleep schedule last night, and I'm not even mad about it. When the clock hit midnight, I set aside my usual obsessive thoughts about the preposterousness of time as a concept and instead put that energy into the inaugural spin of Culture II. To celebrate the Culture sequel's release, the trio brought the Pharrell-produced "Stir Fry" to the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Speaking with Ebro Darden ahead of Culture II's release, Quavo detailed how the "Stir Fry" track came to be. "We was in the studio in L.A. and he was in the next room," he recalled. "We had been running into each other, we've been cool, but he was over there working and he just stepped in because we just walk in everybody's sessions and it's love, and go to work. And he had, like, three or four beats, but the pack was from 2008, like, the old hard drive. He had the old pack. He said he was waiting on this moment. The genie way."
Culture II also features verses and production from Gucci Mane, Nicki Minaj, Drake, 21 Savage, Metro Boomin, Cardi B, Travis Scott, 2 Chainz, Big Sean, Ty Dolla Sign, Post Malone, and Kanye West. For "BBO (Bad Bitches Only)," Savage joins Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset over a beat by West, DJ Durel, and Buddah Bless.
The track is presumably one of the ones Quavo hinted at during a Real 92.3 discussion about his growing interest in beat-making earlier this week. "I did a couple beats with Kanye, me and [DJ] Durel," he said. "It's crazy. He's got a crazy, different feel. He's got all his old shit that he had from like coming in making beats and he still use his original box and his original keyboards. He's still got his old hard drives, and all his samples and all the beats."
Culture II is out now.
