Lil Wayne Taking Childish Gambino's Place at Austin City Limits Festival

Childish Gambino is out and Lil Wayne is in at next month's Austin City Limits festival. Weezy is joined on the lineup by Paul McCartney, St. Vincent, and more.

With Childish Gambino temporarily out of commission due to an injury, the Austin City Limits festival has enlisted Lil Wayne as a last-minute replacement on the weekend 2 lineup.

"We're celebrating Lil Wayne's birthday today in the best way possible," festival reps announced Thursday. "We're adding him to the Saturday, Weekend 2 #ACLFest Lineup!" Wayne joins the festival's already-stacked curation of proven festival performers including Paul McCartney, Travis Scott, Justice, The Breeders, Metallica, Vince Staples, St. Vincent, and more. Weekend two kicks off Oct. 12 in Austin, Texas.

Joining the ACL festival lineup arrives at the perfect time for Wayne, who's easily going to own the next few weeks thanks to the long-awaited release of Tha Carter V. In addition to a Barack Obama sample, the 23-track album counts Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Nicki Minaj, and Snoop Dogg among its collaborators. The release, as even Kanye West (whose Yandhi drops Saturday) has conceded, will almost certainly open at No. 1.

"I don't know what it's setting me up for—some big comeback, or maybe some big fall back or whatever—but it's setting me up for something, and I'm ready," Wayne toldBillboard earlier this month, addressing the repeated delays and legal issues in which Carter V was long mired. The album notably features no Cash Money imprint, instead carrying a shared label credit between Republic, Universal, and Wayne's own Young Money.
