Music festivals have a well-documented problem with sexual assault and harassment, but people are fighting back. Last year, Architects lead singer Sam Carter earned the internet's applause for stopping a show to tell off a guy who groped a woman in the audience. More recently, a female attendee put her own festival groper in his place with the help of another woman, and it's giving people life.
Twenty-year-old Madeline Anello-Kitzmiller, whose choice of festival wear (or lack thereof) has earned her the nickname "glitter booby girl," was walking through a crowd at the Rhythm & Vines festival in New Zealand when a guy ran up behind her, grabbed her bare, glittery boob, and ran off. Without missing a beat, she and her friend turned around, found the guy sitting in the grass, and socked him multiple times. Women everywhere are rejoicing and heralding her as a feminist hero—a role she's willing to accept.
"I stand by my actions and hope that I've inspired women to feel comfortable in their bodies, no matter how they look, and to stick up for themselves when anybody says otherwise or tries to deny you the right to protect your own body," she told The Daily Mail. "In the end, we are all born naked, and each human is uniquely similar to the next in that we all have a naked body. You don't look at yourself in the shower and say 'ew, disgusting' right? So why should anybody say that to anybody else? A humans body is their own, and nobody has a right to touch you without your consent, regardless of what they're wearing or the lack thereof."
