Yesterday Lupe Fiasco unveiled the new music video for “Bitch Bad,” and it’s already got folks talking. MTV’s RapFix brought on Fiasco and a panel of speakers from NPR, Ebony and MTV, plus video model Sophia Marie, to discuss the word “bitch.”
Opinions were varied, but most of the panelists expressed in one way or another that the word is negative and deconstructive at its surface, but can be weakened or even made empowering in the right context. “Even if we don’t come to an agreement about it,” said Fiasco. “It’s definitely something that I think we should talk about because it’s so prevalent in our culture right now.”
