A new mural of Pop Smoke is stirring up quite a reaction amongst fans over the accuracy of the late rapper's likeness.
Photos of the mural circulated online this week, showing Pop pulling a pose while wearing a watch and showing off the rose tattoo on the back of his left hand. The artist's identity and location of the mural were not revealed; however, that didn't stop fans from dragging the piece of art and claiming the image looks nothing like Pop Smoke.
This isn't the first time a mural of Pop has been the topic of the conversation. Last December, a mural in his Canarsie neighborhood in Brooklyn was vandalized with the message "Woo K." The art was designed by Hattas Public Murals five months after the 20-year-old was shot and killed in the Hollywood Hills in February 2020.
The mural arrives a few weeks after one of the suspects in Pop Smoke's murder case was officially sentenced, having pleaded guilty. The defendant—whose identity was not made public—pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and home invasion robbery while also becoming the first of four defendants charged in Pop's death to admit wrongdoing in the fatal incident.
The defendant was sentenced to four years and two months in the Secure Youth Treatment Facility in Los Angeles, but could remain in juvenile custody until he's 25. The other people charged in Pop Smoke’s death include Corey Walker, who was 19 at the time, along with a 15-year-old and 17-year-old.
