Kirk Knight is on the come-up. The 22-year-old rapper and producer has already lent his beats to smash-hit songs like ASAP Ferg’s “Plain Jane,” and released a solo album (Late Knight Special). Now, he’s working on his second full-length album It Is What It Is, set to drop in 2018.
“I’m next. I already know I’m next,” Kirk confidently boasts as he links with Complex and Puma for a video shoot in Brooklyn.
The BK native is a free spirit; a man with a contagious energy that invigorates those around him. Musically, he taps into that energy, developing a sound infused with nodes of ’90s hip-hop and a cadence more aligned with the pacing and hypeness of his contemporaries. The combination makes for a unique listening experience. Kirk sums up his sound more simply.
“I’m spontaneous. However I feel at the moment, that’s what will be projected to the fullest extent.”
Kirk’s artistic style—melding the past and present—mirrors the design of the kicks he dons on this day: the Puma Cell Endura, a silhouette that originally dropped in the ’90s and has re-released with updated Cell cushioning technology.
