I love unexpected excellence, especially when it comes from my region. The Philly electronic music scene is no joke: from DJ Sega to Dieselboy, I've been rocking with the sounds from that city for a bit, and today I'm glad to put you androids onto an EP from an artist I've not been that familiar with, but hell, when someone like Dirty South Joe sends you a note about an artist, it's suggested that you check them out. Drizz Koby came correct with this Silent G EP; it's for the heads who want something that's chilled and moody, but don't want to be lulled to sleep.
Cuts like the EP opener "Eight Doobies" coax you into their being with muted guitars, hypnotic basslines, and tight drums, all waiting to dive into your being and leave you feeling all kinds of warm and fuzzy. It's a solid ride from then on, from the slightly more intoxicating track "The Drought" following right after the opener. This EP isn't that long at all (the entire bit is a hair over 11 minutes long), but it's just enough to a) let you know what Koby's working with and b) make you just hit the "Repeat All" button on your digital audio player. This is the kind of EP you throw on when you're at home, waiting for the squad to come over, and you want to live in that calm before the storm. Download the release and soak it all in.
