West London has been on a winning streak when it comes to churning out superstar spitters. In one corner, you’ve got Central Cee and Digga D, and in the next, you’ve got the likes of AJ Tracey, Big Zuu and Fredo, all of whom have seen major success and have helped put West London rap, drill, and grime firmly on the map.

Adding to the area’s legacy are Motive105 and Rushy, two independent rhymers and creative minds with cult-like fanbases that tap into their every move. Motive105 is gearing up to release a new project this year, and to kick things off, he’s premiering the visuals for its lead single—the Rushy-assisted “Well Introduced”—with Complex UK. Matching up Motive’s laid-back swag with Rushy’s skippy style was a genius move here, making for a memorable listen as well as being easily one of the best collab drops of the year.

“‘Well Introduced’ is a product of high-level rap and high-level production being present in the same room,” says Motive105. “I’ve been sitting on this record for a while and was waiting for the right person and verse for the beat transition; the producers, Parked Up and Q Theory, went to a different realm with this one! Rushy is my brother—the relationship is organic—so the music wasn’t too hard to make at all. We’re both staple names in West London and people have seen us come up from neighbouring blocks; it’s been a while since I’ve seen rappers from West actually work together, so we spun the script.

“I’m working on a debut mixtape, which is nearly complete. I’m literally waiting for one more verse to ice the project then it’s a green light. I haven’t spoken too much on it because I’ve got a thing for timing, but it feels right to exclusively announce that the mixtape is called Heartbroken, But Kept It Gangster. Expect some of the best verses from your favourite artists.”
