Last year was undeniably massive for 18-year-old Zakhar.
Under the watchful eye of his mentor JAE5, Zakhar’s debut EP, Scars On My Mind, notched up eight-digit streaming figures, he was tipped for greatness by just about everyone, and he’s been named as the support act for Rimzee’s upcoming Cold Feet UK tour.
Now, the young talent returns with his first drop of 2023 in “My One”, and it appears to open a bit of a new chapter for the North London native. He’s always had one foot in the rap world and the other in R&B, but with this one he stirs a more pop-oriented sound into the mix.
Produced by Phrxlla and Deps, Zakhar’s trademark pained vocal style is offset by some gentle guitar licks and the occasional vocal harmony for added smoothness.
“‘My One’ is a love song about not needing any other female in your life because you finally found the one that’s good for you,” Zakhar says of the new song. The track itself dropped at midnight and with it a straight-to-the-point visualiser to show his heartfelt overtures to the girl who’s caught his attention.
