Since emerging in a burst of activity with the Frank Lebon-directed video for "Creeping" (taken from last year's Home EP), Nigerian musician Obongjayar has carved out a unique lane in music. Having spent time working with Richard Russell on the Everything Is Recorded project and organising his Sugarcane Club night with Yussef Dayes, he's now back to concentrating on his main music project. His latest offering is "Adjacent Heart", a track which blurs the lines between spoken word, poetry and rap. As ever, this is married with a free-flowing jazz instrumental to hypnotic effect. He's also punctuated those contrasting elements with a beautifully soulful hook for an emotive finish. It's not clear whether this will feature on a larger project, but hopefully it means there's more where this came from.
