Ever since the release of her two-track debut single, "Bad Girlfriend", Portsmouth-born singer and model Lola Coca has been steadily building a growing fanbase, along with her fair share of critical acclaim, with a consistent run of singles and a memorable debut album (2017's The Only Child). Now she's back with her new single — following quickly on from last month's "The One" — with the smoky, jazz-soaked "Staring Into The Sun". A wistful tale of wasting time on a relationship, hoping for some reciprocation that never quite materialises. It can be hard to pull the plug on a situation like that, so for now, take some inspiration from Lola Coca at the bottom.
Speaking with Complex via email, Lola told us: "'Staring Into The Sun' is a melancholy, softer, more vulnerable side of me. It's being so lost in a person that another year passes by, to no change. You still feel the same. Gripping tightly to 'maybes'. Searching for crumbs of emotional stimulation, validation, to be seen by the person. To get the goods at all costs even when it hurts. Until one day, eventually, you finally let go. You choose you. And that's where the magic happens. Karma comes to collect her debt."
