On his new joint, “Lush”, one of the key tracks on his debut album, Everything Is Here, French producer Kartell has teamed up with Zimbabwean-born Australian star Tkay Maidza.
Like the rest of the album, “Lush” takes heavy inspiration from the 1960s and ‘70s pop and dance music, backing Maidza’s nimble flow with a relaxed funk bounce and plenty of colour.
There’s a nostalgic edge to the new track, as there is the rest of the album, which Kartell explains was built into the album’s foundations. Thinking carefully about what his debut would be, the producer explains the central theme was looking back at those first records that inspired him as a child.
Speaking on the album as a whole, Kartell shares: “This album began with me asking myself, ‘OK, how did I fall in love with music in the first place?’ I started to visualize childhood memories of me listening to music in the summer and wanted to create something that worked in that scene and landscape.”
Sharing her thoughts on the collab, Maidza adds: “Kartell is super dope and the French dance scene inspires me a lot, much like the title of this song their sonic boards and landscapes are super lush and I wanted to capture that essence in a song. I’m so grateful to be a part of this album.”
