Drawing a line under a busy summer that included a 16-week residency at Amnesia in Ibiza and a string of festival spots including Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds, North London production duo Gorgon City are back with their new single, “Sidewindah”, and they’ve called on Flirta D to provide his unique vocal flair.
Gorgon City have always kept one foot in soundsystem culture, often looking to grime and garage for inspiration at various points in their varied career together. For this one, they’ve taken Flirta’s inimitable, diesel-throated barks and contorts them into a syncopated percussive melody.
It’s a perfect full circle moment for all three; Gorgon City returning to their pirate radio-influenced rave roots and Flirta back in rave MC mode, firing off mangled directions and FX over the rumbling low-end. Connecting grimey crud with big room rave, it’s purpose-built for sweat-soaked dancing in packed-out warehouse.
