We recently took a look at the albums that many of you are looking forward to hearing this fall. When checking out the release schedule, we realized one major thing: there are some albums that we've heard were on the way, but for whatever reason haven't seemed to get solid information on... yet. The last time we looked at this year's most anticipated projects, a flurry of release dates started hitting the EDM ether. Not to say we caused that... but who knows. In any case, we're back again to give you an idea of the albums that are rumored, or mostly confirmed, that have yet to receive release dates at the time of writing.
Skrillex
Label: Big Beat? OWSLA?
Skrillex might be one of the hardest working men in EDM right now. 2013 alone has seen him release the Leaving EP, a new EP with Boys Noize as Dog Blood, DJ gigs across the country, and being an important part of the OWSLA imprint. He told Billboard back in January that he was sitting on “too many songs to even know what to do with,” and there has always been talk about an actual album coming from Skrillex (as opposed to the EPs he's been releasing). The feeling is that we'll see more of his evolving sound on an album, taking in the influences he's been showcasing over the year and really churning out some thought-provoking material, possibly two albums worth! Whatever the case may be, the album(s) he plans on putting out will be shoe-ins for the EDM Grammy for album of the year.
Tiesto
Label: Musical Freedom?
Tiesto let it be known back in February that he'd spent a lot of time producing new material, and he's proven that, with remixes for Dada Life, Showtek & Noisecontrollers, and others coming out, as well as collaborations with everyone from Dyro to Quintino. He's put out a number of singles on his Musical Freedom imprint, but he's also been on the road non-stop. We're not sure if his plan for an album release in 2013 will still come to fruition, but with the way he's been hustling, we'd understand if he waited until 2014.
Duck Sauce - Quack
Label: Casablanca
Around the release of Duck Sauce's latest single "It's You," we heard that Casablanca would be releasing their album Quack in October. As of this writing, there's no official word on the release date, although we wonder if the rumors about clearing samples on the album might be why there's no firm confirmation date. Regardless, this is one project that will be the talk of the dance music scene once we get more details on it.
Steve Angello
Label: Size Records?
Since Swedish House Mafia's separation, Steve Angello has kept very busy, picking his SIZE imprint up and really forcing his way into the scene on his own. He's spoken a number of times regarding an album project that's in the works, but with his DJ schedule, label running, and the forthcoming Size In The Park 2 event, we're not sure we'll be hearing about this project's release anytime soon.
Afrojack
Label: Wall? Island?
We've known that Afrojack has had an album on the way since early 2013. Since then he's released a single with Chris Brown and signed a deal with Island Records and Universal Music Group, and while he's definitely been touring and has released an EP (alongside a different, more leftfield project), we've not received any new word on what he has on the horizon for his album.
Paul Oakenfold - Pop Killer
Label: ?
Oakenfold told Billboard back in March that his Pop Killer project would feature everyone from Azealia Banks to ZZ Ward (among other bigger, unmentioned names), and that this project wasn't going to have the mainstream EDM sound. He said the project was 75% done, but did mention that in regards to it being completed, "we could be having this discussion next year."
Dillon Francis
Label: Mad Decent
Dillon Francis is another producer who we know is currently in the studio churning out material, but we have no concrete information regarding the release of this surefire banger. With singles like "Without You" showcasing a more emotional side of his production, we can gather that his LP will be different than his previous singles and EPs, dabbling in different vibes and tones, which would be a blessing for one of EDM's leading artists.
Porter Robinson
Label: ?
Porter Robinson told Fuse back in the spring that he was looking to make an "honest" album, and it felt like he was hinting that it wouldn't be full of dancefloor bangers. At that time, he was looking to have the project finished by July of 2013, and if he's done so, we've not heard any timeframe in which we would hear any new singles or expected release dates. We have a feeling that Porter's going to knock the album out of the park, but time will tell when we'll actually hear news on it.
Markus Schulz - Scream II
Label: Armada?
Armada released Markus Schulz' Scream album in August of 2012, and earlier this year he mentioned that there was a Scream II project set for fall of 2013. There's been no word on the project since May, although he has been producing and touring with Ferry Corsten as New World Punx. We won't discount the fall 2013 date, but it'd help if he'd announce a single or more details on this project.
Spor
Label: Sotto Voce
Back when Feed Me was explaining why he wasn't cut out for the hectic touring schedule that EDM DJs have to endure, he mentioned that he'd not only completed a Feed Me album (Calamari Tuesday), but that he had also finished an album of Spor material, which was the drum & bass moniker he used before gaining acclaim as Feed Me. Lifted Music did release a Spor 12" in November of 2012, but we'd heard nothing about new Spor material since then.
