Wiz Khalifa, Big K.R.I.T., and Girl Talk join forces on their new upbeat single “How the Story Goes.”
The track comes from the three artists’ upcoming collab album alongside Smoke DZA, Full Court Press. (Several songs don’t include DZA, including “How the Story Goes.”) The single finds Wiz tapping into some earlier West Coast aesthetics as he glides over Girl Talk’s production, and some always-reliable bars K.R.I.T.
When explaining how the song came together, Girl Talk revealed Wiz acted as the anchor that K.R.I.T. built his contribution around after the “Taylor Gang” rapper was able to find a nice pocket.
“Wiz recorded his verse first,” Girl Talk said. “I thought the beat was a slightly different vibe than normal for him, but once he got in the booth, it felt like a natural fit. K.R.I.T. came in and built the rest of the song around that verse. He was able to capture the feel of the sample and take it somewhere new. This turned into one of the songs that I ended up going back to the most.”
The trio are all going on separate tours kicking off at the end of the month. Girl Talk is starting his North American run on March 31, Wiz has dates from mid-April to May, and K.R.I.T. is launching his tour in North Carolina on April 21 and closing it out June 10.
