It looks like Kanye West will have a rival in the 2020 presidential race.
In an new episode of Brown and Scoop, recorded at the Roc Nation Summer Classic Charity Basketball Game Thursday night at the Barlcays Center, the pair spoke with DJ Khaled about a wide range of topics like his inspirations, baby names, his upcoming single “Holy Key” off Major Key, and the idea of him running for president someday.
If #KhaledforPresident did actually start trending on Twitter, this would be Khaled’s first order of business to change the world.
“First thing I would do is start a campaign, really, it shouldn’t be called a campaign it should be called a life lesson, it’s to let everybody know, clearly, love is the key and love is the answer. When you put out love, you receive love,” he says. “Of course you’re going to go through road blocks and trials and tribulations but we have to put more love out there and pray more and unify and come together because love is the key to everything.”
He adds, “When you have love, you can walk through fire, that’s how powerful love is. Love is so powerful, they don’t want you to love. That’s why you see so much crazy stuff, they actually don’t want you to love.”
He certainly had a change a heart compared to his comments in January when he told Us Weekly that he would vote for West if he ran for office in 2020 and that he wouldn't run for president. Khaled sounds like he has a clear stance on the issues in America right now like police brutality, where he said we need more "love."
“I know it’s hard especially when we see what’s going on because it’s disgusting. It hurts my heart, it brought tears to me the other day, I can’t believe what’s going on but that’s when we got to pray more and come together and hug each other and help each other and bring joy and energy around because, like, smile and love are so powerful it actually blocks the hatred,” he says.
As for Kanye, he’s still pretty serious about his candidacy. He already got endorsements by Jaden Smith, Ice Cube, and his wife Kim Kardashian confirmed his announcement adding “"if he puts his mind to something, he'll do his best."
Hillary Clinton, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, once said she wouldn’t rule out anyone for her Vice President—even ‘Ye. So, if he does lose the race, at least he’s got that going for him.
No matter what unfolds four years from now, the 2020 election is about to be crazy.
