Miley Cyrus has been a polarizing figure in the music world for several months now. Conversations about her performance during the MTV Video Music Awards with Robin Thicke or her video for "Wrecking Ball" are inescapable at this point. Her album, Bangerz, finally came out this past Tuesday, and is expected to be the top-selling album in the country. Meanwhile, the MileyCyrusVEVO YouTube channel was the most-watched channel last month.
Some say that she's become a negative influence on today's children. Others say that she's merely expressing herself. Still others have suggested that her new image was the creation of people within the industry in order to make her marketable as she enters adulthood and has to turn the page on her incredibly successful Hannah Montana franchise.
Cyrus got the opportunity to address some of these claims and her current notoriety during a recent interview with Hunger TV. She said that she is surprised by the fact that "Wrecking Ball" still shocks people, and explained that she wants fans to focus on her as an entertainer, and not necessarily as someone who will share intimite details of her personal life.
When asked what it feels like to be the most famous woman in the world right now, Miley said:
According to Miley, she is in charge of her destiny right now. And if the numbers are any indication, she has guided herself to a successful album campaign.
This is not the first time Miley has made a seemingly disparaging comment based on ageism. Earlier this week, she made Matt Lauer uncomfortable during The Today Show when she said, "I heard when you turn 40 things start to go a little less sexual. So probably around 40, around that time I heard that's when some people don't have sex anymore."
Meanwhile, Miley talks about her collaboration with Britney Spears, "SMS (Bangerz)" at the beginning of the interview.
