Chance The Rapper's Acid Rap has become one of the year's most acclaimed records. OK, so we're as guilty of making it so as anyone—only Yeezus topped Acid Rap in our list of the best albums of 2013. But not without reason. The record has made Chance one of hip-hop's most-discussed artists. The rapper has jumped from virtually unknown outside his native Chicago, to touring with Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and Macklemore—three of the genre's most popular stars. With rumors of multi-million dollar major label offers being thrown at his feet, the rapper spent this summer crossing the country in an RV with a handful of his friends, opening for Mac Miller, as is described in our latest cover story.

While Chance marinates on his options, we take a look at the record that made it all possible: Acid Rap, a window into the precocious 20-year-old's concerns and obsessions. The album captures an artist who is just beginning to recognize the possibility of his talents for expression. Chance balances craft and musicality, popular ambitions with intellectual restlessness. Complex TV sat down with Chance and went in-depth, taking a look at each track on the album that has single-handedly pushed him up to the next tier. So without further ado, here is The Making of Chance The Rapper's Acid Rap.
