All artists have influences. But there's a difference between influence and straight-up imitation. Although we're not taking sides, there's been a lot of chatter around the Internet about "Tik Tok" singer Ke$ha and her supposed similarities to French electro-pop singer and hot indie rock girl Uffie. From the LA Times to tweet comments from hipster celebs like Jeremy Scott and Cobra Snake Queen Cory Kennedy, they all suggest that Ke$ha's been swagger-jacking Uffie in her new tracks.
We got to know Ke$ha this week in her own Complex 7 interview, but we've been feeling Uffie since she started popping up on the blogs in '06. We can see the similarities—both blonde party chicks, both use a heavy dose of hip-hop slang, and both pepper auto-tune and club-banging synths throughout their music. Before it turns into another full-fledged mainstream feud, we wanted to evaluate each girl in a series of head-to-head battles to decide once and for all, who's the electro-pop-princess-of-the-moment, Ke$ha or Uffie?
