The 10 Best Moments of Kanye West's Atlantic City Revel Concert

Ye’s dancers were more than ballerinas. He referred to them as “performance artists,” and they went in all night, flailing and tossing themselves around on “Love Lockdown” and beautifully toeing the stage during “Runaway.” They made such a demanding task look way easy. Of course, Kanye let the audience know that the shit is, indeed, tough. "There's blood on this fuckin' stage,” he said while pointing to stains beside his sneakers. “That's how hard it is."

It didn’t take long for the chants to start. “Yeezy! Yeezy! Yeezy!” Most people know that’s been Kanye’s nickname for years, but two women sitting next to us didn't. “What’s Yeezy,” they asked. Fail. But that's a testament to how famous Kanye West is. Those clueless chicks shelled out big money to enjoy songs by a guy they hardly know anything about.

Kanye opened the show with “Dark Fantasy," the first song on his last solo album. In a white shirt, jeans and black sneakers, West floated above the crowd on a lift that shot out frosty air and made it look like he was floating above everyone. The fans loved the theatrics, and it was only the beginning.

Though the night’s show featured the same staging he’s used at festivals for the past year, Kanye brought his new jams with him. “Turn up,” he demanded before spitting his verse on “Mercy.” “This is the No. 1 song,” he added. Then he followed up with "Cold," which features some lines about wifey Kim Kardashian, who was in the building. Looking good, too.

While Kanye was getting his Auto-Tuned croon on during “Runaway,” he noticed that he wasn’t killing it vocally like he usually does, so he felt the need to explain why. Of course, he had to stunt on everyone in the process. "My voice is cracking a little bit tonight because I just got off the plane from Paris and I'm parched.” It should be noted that he pronounced Paris, “Pair-ree.” Swerve.

Queen’s "We Will Rock You" led into Kanye's verse on Katy Perry’s "E.T." "Monster" flowed seamlessly into Phil Collins’ "In The Air Tonight." Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.” rang off, shifting to “Good Life.” Kanye’s musical transitions were sonically gorgeous, and well thought out. He also shouted out Jackson, saying, “I had the pleasure of meeting him. He said ‘You need to hold it down for us.’” Then Ye continued to body the show.

While performing his 808s & Heartbreak cut “Say You Will,” Kanye shared this scenario: A girl you’re really into, who lives far away, suddenly visits town. She has opted to stay at a friend’s place. She promises that she’s going to come by your place later. Of course, you’re hoping for sex when she arrives. You prep all day, sending her slick texts and cleaning up the apartment. Then night comes. She’s fronting now, saying she’ll come by after she hits the club, which you say is okay. But you’re lying. It’s not okay. You’re just “being cool.” Now it’s midnight and your dick is winning the battle over your pride, so you send her the umpteenth text of the evening wondering where she is. No response. Now it’s 3 a.m. and you’re in and out of sleep, pathetically slumped on the couch. And that’s the end. You got played. She said she would. Then she didn’t. The moral of the story? Don’t say you will, unless you will. We’ve all been there. Great story, ‘Ye.

It seemed as if Kanye would go the entire night without bringing out any of his famous friends. There was no Jay-Z sighting, as many hoped for, but just before the show wrapped, ‘Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music artist Pusha T hit the stage. Dressed all in black, Push ran through his “Runaway” verse and owned the stage for his two minutes of shine.

Kanye took some time out to talk about how his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy single “All of the Lights" was created. After performing his verses, he stripped down the beat and recalled being in his Hawaii studio when producer Jeff Bhasker first played the horn parts on his keyboard. Bhasker, who was there last night as part of ‘Ye’s band, began playing those horns again. Kanye remembered coming up with the drums next. He then beat-boxed the drums, which was excellent. Kanye said the chorus was the toughest part, but not for critically acclaimed songwriter The-Dream. He saved the day after Kanye struggled. "He's just so cold," West said before joyously singing, “Extra bright I want y’all to see this.”

We were all waiting for it, and about an hour into the show, the Kanye West Rant happened. After “All Falls Down,” Kanye thanked his fans for their support over the years. “It's moments like this that make all the bullshit worth it.” He mentioned that his past had been rough at times. “As a man I'm not perfect,” he lamented. “But my music is! I make perfect music. But I'm not saying that in no type of arrogant way. I’m saying that it in a factual way. I thank you so much for listening to this good-ass music!" It was a wonderful balance of comedy and pure passion. How can you not love this guy?
