Senator Bernie Sanders is for the people, which, for him, means making a grand introduction to Travis Scott and Young Thug’s hit song “Pick Up the Phone.”
Before he started his campaign speech at Morehouse College in Atlanta on Thursday, Sanders entered the stage to booming cheers from the audience. As he approached the podium, Scott and Thug’s classic—which also features Quavo—joined the applause.
Sanders’ song choice shouldn’t be shocking to his supporters. After he announced his bid for president in 2016, he was endorsed by a number of rappers, including Killer Mike, Bun B, and T.I. Cardi B also recently showed support for Sanders and even interviewed the candidate to find out about his plans if he does win the election.
While a lot of people loved Sanders’ song choice, some thought it was pandering. Read some of the reactions below.
