The worldwide lockdowns and stay-at-home orders have effectively halted all in-person concerts. But that hasn't stopped some artists from delivering incredible shows.
This week, Brooklyn legend Jeru the Damaja was featured in a home edition of NPR Music's Tiny Desk concert series. The 48-year-old MC filmed the installment from his Berlin home, where he performed a medley of his greatest hits. Jeru kicked things off with "Can't Stop the Prophet" off his 1994 debut album The Sun Rises in the East. That was followed by "Ain't the Devil Happy," "Scientifical Madness," "So Raw," and "My Mind Spray."
He then wrapped things with two new tracks, "IF" and "The Power." Jeru said the latter track will appear on his forthcoming project—his first since 2007's Still Rising.
"I wanna end with a joint, it's from my new album. It's called 'The Power' because I think the power resides in the people, and that's why I started with 'Can't Stop the Prophet' because that superhero is in you," he explained. "No matter who you are, what you are, know the power resides in you and know that we can really overcome anything if you put your mind to it—you just can't get in your mind too much."
