In a recent interview with the UK's The Sun, Paul McCartney revealed that Kanye West's "Only One" materialized after a conversation they had about The Beatles' "Let It Be." The two artists spent a lot of timing getting to know each other and sharing stories before working on new music. The collaboration started to take shape after McCartney detailed that his mother, who had also passed away before writing the song, came to him in a dream and said, "Don't worry it's all going to be fine, just let it be." After waking up, he wrote "Let It Be." After hearing that story, Kanye felt inspired to write about his mother, Donda, and proceeded to sit at the piano and start creating what would become "Only One."
Sir Paul also described the rapport he built with Kanye by discussing the 60's and the similarities he saw when working on music with Kanye and John Lennon. The excitement in the interview from McCartney sounds like this might not be the last song that the two music luminaries release together in our lifetimes.
