Jaheim has been arrested on charges of animal cruelty.

People reports the 44-year-old Grammy-nominated R&B singer has been charged with third-degree animal cruelty and failure to provide necessary care to an animal. His arrest came on Monday morning at his Hillsborough, New Jersey residence.

Responding to a report of a “puppy in distress,” Hillsborough Township Police Department discovered 15 dogs living in grim conditions on the property.

“Hillsborough Patrol units upon canvassing the area located a total of six dogs in separate animal crates in the driveway of a Chamberlain Drive residence,” prosecutors said in a press release. “One of the dogs located was initially unresponsive in a water filled crate and subsequently had to be euthanized. Additional dogs were found inside of separate crates which were partially filled with several inches of water and dog feces.”

According to authorities, police recovered 12 mixed-breed pit bull terriers, two American Staffordshire terriers, and one mixed-breed boxer. One dog was found unresponsive in the crate, and had to be euthanized; the other 14 surviving dogs were transported to Long Hill Kennel in Hillsborough for examination.

Jaheim has been booked at New Jersey’s Somerset County Jail while he awaits a hearing. The incident is being investigated by the Hillsborough Township Police Department and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
