Summer Walker’s new manager, Aubrey Banks, is facing questions about his criminal and financial history after label insiders reportedly disputed key claims about his music-industry résumé.

According to TMZ, Banks previously pleaded guilty to forgery charges, filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, and claimed professional experience at Interscope Records that label sources say he never had.

The concerns reportedly surfaced after Banks began managing Walker, whose records are released through Love Renaissance and Interscope. Sources close to the label told TMZ that Banks falsely claimed he worked in Interscope’s A&R department from December 2008 to January 2012.

“There were concerns raised internally regarding a number of false claims made by Aubrey Banks, including that he had previously worked at Interscope Records, which was simply untrue,” one source said.

Interscope sources claimed Banks “seemingly secured his role with Summer Walker based on numerous fabricated job titles and experience,” adding that subsequent revelations raised “serious questions surrounding his credibility.”

Court records cited by TMZ also show Banks was charged in 2017 with two counts of first-degree forgery and identity theft fraud. He later accepted a plea agreement, pleaded guilty to the forgery counts and received three years of probation.

Separate records reportedly show that Banks filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy while listing approximately $250,000 in assets against $402,000 in liabilities. The filing listed monthly income of $8,250 and expenses of $7,400, though it reportedly categorized the income as interest while stating that his regular income was zero.

Walker’s previous manager was an Atlanta-based woman also named Summer Walker, who helped develop the singer’s online presence and connected her with LVRN before her mainstream breakthrough.

The scrutiny comes as Walker remains one of contemporary R&B’s biggest artists. After cleaning houses and working other jobs in Atlanta, she taught herself guitar through online videos and began posting performances on social media.

Those clips helped lead to her signing with LVRN and Interscope in 2017. Her 2018 mixtape, Last Day of Summer, produced the breakout track “Girls Need Love,” which gained a wider audience after Drake appeared on its remix.

Walker continued that momentum with her 2019 debut album, Over It, followed by the chart-topping Still Over It in 2021, the Clear 2: Soft Life EP in 2023 and Finally Over It in 2025.
