The slow jams are back on, and Raheem DeVaughn is taking your calls.
The R&B singer-songwriter and philanthropist has announced that he is taking his late-night R&B sound beyond Washington, D.C., with The Garden of Love. According to You Know I Got Soul, the show launched on October 12 with Urban One’s Reach Media and Radio One, bringing slow jams and listener conversations to stations in five markets.
The program airs from Sunday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to midnight. It originates on Majic 102.3 WMMJ in D.C., with broadcasts in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Richmond. DeVaughn mixes romantic R&B with dedications, calls, and discussions about love, relationships, and everyday life.
DeVaughn’s connection to that sound runs through both his catalog and his time behind a microphone. In 2024, WHUR named him host of The Original Quiet Storm, the D.C. program that helped establish late-night slow jams as a radio fixture.
Melvin Lindsey created the show at Howard University’s station in 1976, and it became a model for nighttime R&B programming. DeVaughn has also hosted his own podcast since 2012, giving him years of interview experience before this new syndicated run.
“This new chapter with Urban One is about building a new nighttime syndicated tradition,” DeVaughn said in a statement announcing The Garden of Love.
Radio One and Reach Media programming executive Colby Tyner described the aim in more immediate terms: giving listeners “a place to unwind, feel heard and end their day with Raheem.”
The launch arrives during an active stretch for DeVaughn as a recording artist. He released his tenth studio album, The Quiet Storm Lover (Tome Un), earlier this year and recently took a reworked version of his song “You” to No. 1 on a Billboard R&B chart, according to the show’s announcement.
His work outside music also remains rooted in D.C.: through his LoveLife Foundation, he supports health and well-being in underserved communities of color.
