The '90s, Lou Pearlman was known for managing two of the most successful boy bands in world with Backstreet Boys and NSYNC. However, as time went on, Pearlman was accused of scamming the artists he worked with and employing one of the most notorious Ponzi schemes in U.S. history. He pleaded guilty to money laundering, conspiracy, and making false statements after his arrest in 2017. YouTube Originals have now shared their first trailer for a documentary following his rise and fall, speaking with many of those he scammed.
The newly released trailer for The Boy Band Con: The Lou Pearlman Story features clips of interviews with Lance Bass, Ashley parker Angel, Aaron Carter, and J.C. Chasez among others. All of the acts that worked with him sued him for misrepresentation and fraud, with Aaron Carter filing his lawsuit at the age of 14. Throughout the years, Pearlman also convinced people to invest in a travel company that didn't really exist, paying profits to earlier investors with funds from his latest investors.
In a 2007 Vanity Fair article, Pearlman was accused of molestation. He later denied the allegations in 2014. Nick Carter did not confirm the allegations when asked, while Lance Bass stated that he never attempted to coerce any of NSYNC. Pearlman died from cardiac arrest in 2016 at the age of 62.
