The Game has opened up about how street life in Compton impacted him at an early age, and recalled coming across a dead body when he was just seven years old.
During an appearance on Full Send Podcast, Game was asked about how living in Compton has changed for him from his childhood to now. “Outside of, like, gunshots and dead bodies and shit, I mean it’s pretty much the same,” he said around the 24-minute mark of the interview, as seen above. “In Compton it’s sort of like a gang-bang family tree. My parents were both gang members. It’s only a matter of time before your child dives into that lifestyle, too.”
He went on to explain that the reality of living in some of these environments, whether it be Compton or Brooklyn, means street life impacts some at an early age. “Even when you’re in kindergarten, you just see so much,” he said. “When I was five years old, bro, I was walking for like blocks to the school bus. As a five-year-old. I wouldn’t let my five-year-old walk through the mall alone these days. I don’t know, it’s just crazy, man. You grow up in the hood and you just become immune to all the shit that you see. I’ve seen dead bodies and thought nothing of it, just kept walking.”
From there, he talked about seeing a dead body as a kid for the first time. “It was just a drive-by shooting,” he said. “Somebody got hit. They were just laid out and we were outside playing. Of course, people are always like, some people run left, away. And other nosey ass people come towards the, you know, whatever happened. So, me and my homies was outside playing, I mean it wasn’t homies, we were seven. We were throwing the football in the street… We just walked down there, and it was like so-and-so got shot.”
He shared the gory details of another incident when two guys were shot dead in their car. “Two bullet holes through the back window, both dead, and one of them’s eyeball was stuck,” he shared. “I could just remember wanting to, like, lift his head up out of that. Because it was a fucked-up way for people to see you, you know. I remember feeling real bad about that. But yeah, I’ve seen tons of murders and shit.”
