Claire Foy was the host of Saturday Night Live's latest episode, but before she appeared, Alec Baldwin returned in another cold open featuring his outlandish portrayal of Donald Trump. Instead of entirely making jokes at the expense of the president, he also took a moment to make fun of himself during the sketch.
Appearing alongside Cecily Strong's portrayal of Melania Trump, Baldwin's Trump admits that he's recently had difficulty sleeping, remarking, "I keep having a nightmare where I'm walking through a forest of blood." The sly reference to Melania's terrifying Christmas decorations is followed up with brief talks with Kate McKinnon's Rudy Giuliani and others. Then Baldwin's Trump gets a phone call.
When he hangs up the phone, he jokingly says, "God, I haven't been this upset since I flipped out over that parking space." This is a rare instance of Baldwin breaking character.
Of course, the joke refers to his assault charges related to reportedly punching a man over a parking space in November. Baldwin has since called the allegations "egregiously misstated" and nothing more than "clickbait entertainment."
"However, the assertion that I punched anyone over a parking spot is false," he wrote. "I wanted to go on the record stating as much. I realize that it has become a sport to tag people w as many negative charges and defaming allegations as possible for the purposes of clickbait entertainment. Fortunately, no matter how reverberating the echos, it doesn’t make the statements true."
The sketch also featured a number of other guests, including Fred Armisen as Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Ben Stiller's Michael Cohen. Watch the whole thing above.
