Normani is moving right along, sharing her new collab with 6lack "Waves" on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show.

The former Fifth Harmony member explained to Lowe why she chose to work with him.

"He's such an important artist, and I've been following his journey for a while now, and we're really big fans of each other. Our text messages pretty much look like we're complimenting each other," she said. "He's an amazing lyricist, and I feel like he took the record to a whole other level. I already love the record as is, but he totally exceeded any expectation I even had, which was pretty high, because I admire him as an artist."

Beyond the new single, Normani was mum about her upcoming debut solo album. She offered few details about the project, other than the fact that they hope to get it out by early next year.

Though she's ready to move on, Normani seemed happy with her prefab girl group roots

"I think that when you look back, it was so beautiful. We achieved and we did everything that ... we exceeded what we were supposed to do," she said of Fifth Harmony. "We were a girl group that was manufactured on a reality television show. A lot of the time, the odds were against us and I feel like we fought as best we could, and we accomplished things that people may not have necessarily thought that we would have."
