It's common knowledge that Nicki Minaj's Barbz can be vicious if they feel like anyone is attacking their queen. Yet, Doja Cat had the unpleasant experience of witnessing it firsthand when Minaj's stans started to troll her.
During an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe via FaceTime, Doja explains how a simple miscommunication got twisted by the Barbz to make it seem like she hates Nicki's fan base. Doja said that fuse was lit when she jumped in to defend a man who was being ridiculed by Nicki Minaj stans over fan art.
"He saw this art that someone drew of me, Nicki and Meg, in that order. So Nicki was in the middle and it was a Rolling Stone cover, but Nicki was in the middle, rightfully so. Meg was on the right and I was on the left and this guy commented, 'I'd like to see Doja in the middle,'" she said. "And then someone commented back to him, 'Gosh, men. Men these days, they're so messy. They just want problems all the time.' And I saw that comment and I was like, 'God, you have to bring like someone's gender into stuff and that's what makes you look stupid.'"
From there, the man and the Barbz continued to argue over the picture with the man reiterating that he has nothing against Minaj he just wanted to see Doja Cat in the middle. This prompted Doja to reinsert herself into the conversation, urging the man to stop replying to the fans.
"So then I come in and I say, 'Dude, stop responding to these people. They're scum. They're so awful. Stop talking to them. They have nothing good to say to you or anybody else,'" Doja continued. This got twisted into people assuming that Doja Cat hates the Barbz which in turn means she must not like Nicki Minaj. That placed her in the Barbz's crosshairs.
"They start spinning it that I'm talking about every single person who likes Nicki Minaj when they don't even know I'm the biggest Nicki Minaj fan," Doja Cat said. "So they're stupid. They don't even know me. So they're saying things that they have no idea what they're talking about."
