Equipped with his signature, sample-ladened sound, 1988 is further proof of why Knxwledge is one of the most reliable producers out. Filled with extensive vocal samples, including interviews with Cam'Ron and early Meek Mill freestyles, the project has all the melodies and hard-hitting drums Knxwledge is known for. Across 22 songs and 38 minutes, he displays his commitment to crate-digging and crafting a chilled-out sound.

With no discernible feature credits for the most part, the album does include an appearance from his NxWorries bandmate Anderson .Paak. Named after the year he was born, 1988 is inspired by stories of him using a vintage SP-12 sampler when he was still an infant.

Alongside the release of the album, Knxwledge also shared the video for "Makeitliveforever," one of the many highlights from the record.
