Artists and fans are paying tribute to Lexii Alijai, a 21-year-old Minnesota rapper who reportedly died on New Year's Day.
The news was confirmed by Lexii's family members via Facebook: "Your a real Legend🎼 if you know her or heard her music you’d feel chills😔," her cousin Raeisah Clark wrote. "Rest in paradise you’ll never be forgotten!👼🏽 I’m so lost for words...my beautiful cousin with so much talent & Unique soul Lexii Alijai It’s too soon."
Lexii—legal name Alexis Alijai Lynch—was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she began releasing remixes of popular songs by the likes of Drake, 2Pac, Nas, and more. After dropping original tracks via Soundcloud, Lexii began generating buzz outside of her hometown, eventually delivering a number of full-length projects and securing multiple collaborations—the most notable of which was her 2015 "Jealous" cut with Kehlani.
Kehlani was among those who took to Twitter to mourn Lexii's death.
"I keep typing and backspacing you knew what you meant to me everyone knew what you meant," the While We Wait artist wrote. "You were so special bro. I seen you fight thru it all ... Lex I'mma miss you so bad. You was about to get everything you always talked about. RIP MY BABY I LOVE YOU LEX 4L."

The details of Lexii's death have not been revealed.
