Lord Of The Mics 8

The eighth edition of legendary grime clash platformLord Of The Mics has arrived and, as expected, it's renewed the buzz and energy within its scene. At a special screening in East London last week, a select group of fans were treated to an early glimpse of the action (as well as some live barring from special guest Skepta), and the project is now available to pick up and see for yourselves.

Starting out life as a DVD box set, LOTM screened clashes from now-established legends in grime, such as Wiley, Kano, Skepta, Bashy and D Double E, illustrating the truly underground and DIY nature of the scene at that time. As mainstream attention increased and success filtered into the scene, its most prominent underground stable also shifted, with Lord Of The Mics now taking on a pastoral role in ushering through rising talents and keeping the foundational art of live clashing alive.

Announced back in March, the line-ups, arguably the most diverse to date, threw out interesting propositions with a bunch of hungry spitters from across the country lined up to do battle. Amongst these, the early standouts see Essex emcee Tommy B take on Leicester's Jay 0117, Lewisham's Yizzy in a heated back and forth with Micofcourse, as well as a super-animated Funky Dee go up against Mischief from Hertfordshire.

Keeping in line with tradition, the eight edition of LOTM also comes complete with a mixtape side-project, featuring all new music from the featured MCs and more; expect impressive styles from newbies SBK and FFSWHYTHO next to legendary spitters like Footsie and Scratchy.
