Bootleg Kev has declared Haiti Babii's recent Real 92.3 freestyle "definitely the most unique freestyle experience" he and co-host DJ Hed have ever had on the show.
"Something happens, when I hear a beat I just kick into it," Haiti Babii later explained of his process. The freestyle in question sees the Stockton, California rapper weaving in and out of different voices and narratives, complete with ad-libs and falsetto-delivered sound effects. The result marks an undeniably unique performance, notably including a few Young Thug-esque flourishes. In fact, when you imagine some production touches like Auto-Tune on top of this, the picture becomes even clearer.
"I wanna keep it authentic, original, all over the place, so people can learn to keep their mind free, free thought," he said.
Warrior, Haiti Babii's nine-track project through Slyyy Ent. and EMPIRE, dropped back in April. The Stockton artist gave the backstory on Warrior single "Without You," featuring Philthy Rich, during a recent interview with 106.1 KMEL. The track came about thanks to a contest hosted by Philthy Rich, ultimately resulting in a free feature for Haiti Babii.
"Him doing that, I took that concept and I'm going to use that in the future," he said. "You come in this game to show love."
For now, the talk surrounding Haiti Babii (which notably includes nods from Chance the Rapper and Chrissy Teigen) is centered on his Real 92.3 freestyle. While some remain perplexed, others are more open to embracing the experimental approach.
