Former Newham General and N.A.S.T.Y Crew member Monkstar is back in a big way. Teaming up with singer, MC and visual artist Sharee Lewis, the pair have put together an ambitious and immersive project: an eight-track video EP produced entirely by Bolus with the visual aspect realised by the hugely talented Bipolar Spider.
Monkstar and Sharee have been collaborating for a little while now, running their Red Dot label, appearing on radio together, putting on events and spending a lot of time in the studio to hone their creative relationship. The Be EP feels like the summation of their work together so far as well as a snapshot of where grime is at in 2019 with some shining appearances from his fellow Generals D Double and Footsie, as well as guest spots from Manga, Melvillous and Esskay.
Together, Monkstar's jagged flow and Sharee's technically-minded yet poetic style complement each other perfectly; and giving them both solo cuts in the middle of the EP has proved to be a well-judged decision, particularly for fans who may not be as familiar with Sharee's work.
