Two of the most exciting songwriting talents in the country have just done as enormous favour collaborating. Yes, as the flesh-searing summer heat fades into something more manageable, Roses Gabor and Sampha have given us an ideal soundtrack for the cool summer evenings with new single "Illusions". The overarching theme of the song is relationships coming to an end, fading into nothing. It's by no means somber, though. Sampha's upbeat production packs a swift rhythm section that guides Gabor's ethereal and deeply affecting vocals with surprising urgency. Having worked with greats like Shy FX, Gorillaz, SBTRKT and now Sampha, we have to applaud her ability to pick producers. Let's hope there's an album in the pipeline.
