In a day and age where social media antics and a general sense of negativity seem to dictate what's rated, it's refreshing sometimes to get a sense of old school simplicity, where the focus of the artist is solely on the music.

And that's exactly what Motive105 brings to his latest single, "D4RLING", with a video directed by Jay Parpworth. Filled with double entendres, a hard-hitting hip-hop beat alongside an undeniably British delivery, the song will have you nodding your head, taking in every lyric as he does away with the melodic direction rap has taken in recent years and just provides straight bars.

The closest thing to a melody is the hypnotic hook, which is added to the kind of beat you'd expect to hear on J. Cole's latest effort KOD. With both rappers prioritising bars and craft over attention for the wrong reasons, Motive105 will be hoping he can reach even half the heights of the aforementioned modern great, and "D4RLING" isn't a bad start.
