Justin Timberlake, fresh off an extremely divisive woods-themed album, is back with a surprise new song.
Stream "SoulMate" above. Production was handled by Nineteen85, whose smashes include Drake's "Hotline Bling," "One Dance," and "Too Good," plus Nicki Minaj's "Truffle Butter." The track also features contributions from James Fauntleroy, Paul Jefferies, Brandon Casey, Brian Casey, Gary Smith, and Lechas Young.
The surprise drop arrives mere hours after we reported that Timberlake and Drake—who last linked for "Cabaret" back in 2013—have been talking about a reunion cut. "There's like two or three tracks on every G.O.O.D. Music release that I really, really am feeling," he said. "I love Scorpion, I think it literally just like answered anything. I think the Boy came correct with that one. We've talked about [collaborating again] a lot. I don't wanna say too much because I don't wanna jinx it, but we've talked about it a lot."
Man of the Woods, Timberlake's fifth studio album, just dropped back in February to relatively mixed reviews. While the choruses of songs like the Chris Stapleton–featuring "Say Something" are pretty undeniable, the album did admittedly feel a dash too long and confusingly disjointed in parts, especially considering the fact it was seemingly promoted as a concept album prior to release. Still, we at least we got "Filthy" out of it.
Judging by JT's recent Instagram activity, we should probably expect more new music soon.
