Swizz Beatz on the One Thing That Still Drives Him Crazy About His Kanye Collab "So Appalled"

Swizz Beatz stopped by 'Open Late' with Peter Rosenberg.

Last night, Swizz Beatz stopped byOpen Late With Peter Rosenberg for a fun trip down memory lane in the form of sifting through some old records. It's no wonder that Swizz, a longtime Kanye West collaborator, is a fan of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy—he was, after all, featured on the album.

“I’m a fan of that album, big time,” Swizz said. However, there’s one thing about that album that still drives him crazy to this day: his intro in “So Appalled,” when, if you listen closely, his voice cuts out for what feels like half a second.

“I just never understood why my part was never cleaned up. If you hear, my voice skips on it,” he said. Swizz isn’t even sure if that was an intentional move by Kanye. “I don’t know if he didn’t want to mess with my craft,” the producer says—but, still, everything happened last minute. “Every time I hear it, it drives me crazy.”

With his newest album, Ye, released Friday, Kanye is back with full control over production of his music, and Swizz is excited about that. “I just hope that the music lives up to the challenging time that he put in front of himself with being passionate about his personal life and the way he feels about things,” he said.

Although Swizz kept things relatively general, Rosenberg asked Swizz if he’d spoken to Kanye “through it” at all.

“I absolutely had a conversation with him. I talk real talk. I don’t play around and misguide people for the hype,” Swizz explained. “But I can’t tell anyone how to feel about what they feel, but what I can tell you is how I feel about it. You asked me my opinion so I gotta tell you.”

Swizz also promised some surprises for his upcoming set at Summer Jam on June 10. In the meantime, though, check out his newest song, “It’s Okayyy.”
