During his episode of Blueprint, world champion DJ A-Trak showed us how he rose from a young kid fascinated by sound into one of the leading DJs in the music scene today. He's worked with everyone from Kanye West to Lil Yachty, and has helped nurture many careers through his work with Fool's Gold. He's also an in-demand DJ, traveling everywhere to bring the good vibes to party people. Part of his travels bring him into interesting situations, like 2018's Holy Ship cruise.
Holy Ship is best described as a whole rave on the seas as an entire dance music festival is packed onto a cruise ship for a few days of funk-soaked fun in the sun. A-Trak was on board for this year's incarnation, and says that on one of his days off, he cooked up Cut It Out 2, which is a sequel to his 2017 Cut It Out mix. Similar to the 2017 set, this new mix finds A-Trak throwing in what he says is "a bunch of music I listen to but don't get to play enough in my sets."
The end result is a dope trek through A-Trak's record bins, which features classic material from Roni Size and Bahamadia, 2017 loosies from J.I.D, and mash-ups of Alt-J and ASAP Rocky alongside solid club bangers from Duke Dumont, Roska, and Tchami. He crosses many genres and highlights a number of sounds throughout. It's 61 songs in 77 minutes, a.k.a. the best soundtrack to your afternoon. Check out the full mix (and tracklist) below.
